Accredited Online Law Degree

Finding an accredited online law school is the most important first step. You can spend years studying for an online law degree, however if its not from an accredited online school then its not worth the paper its written on. Ok, so the "not worth the paper its written on" might sound a little harsh but believe I learned the hard way. I started an 18 month online MBA program, and it wasn't until I was 12 credits short of completing it did I find out it wasn't an accredited online college. So I had wasted over a year of studying and preparing for something I wasn't sure was going to be valid. In the end I finally decided to finish the MBA; after all I had come this far and it would be even worse if I walked away empty handed.

When looking for an accredited online law degree it isn’t enough to look for an online accredited university, sometimes an accredited university might be accredited for an online business degree or an accredited MBA degree, you have to make sure the online law degree program is also accredited. Most the time you can write in and get this is writing by ask your online college for proof of accreditation from an educational regional or national accrediting body. The importance of accreditation is to ensure that any online law degree programs provided by a college or university meet acceptable levels of quality set by the U.S. Department of Education.

Online degree accreditation is a type of quality assurance process under which an educational program is evaluated by an external institution to ensure applicable standards are met. Once those standards are met, accredited status is granted by the institution. In most countries including the US and Canada educational accreditation is conducted by a government organization, such as the Department of Education in the US and the Ministry of Education in Canada. Some countries also require it be performed by private membership associations.

The CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation) and the Department of Education both recognize the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) as the accrediting organization for distance learning institutions & education programs that offer online degrees.
