Concord Law School

The Concord Law School was founded 1998 and is owned and operated by the Kaplan University, it was known as the Concord University School of Law until it changed its name in 2007, it is currently known as the Concord Law School of Kaplan University, based in Los Angeles California. What makes this law school unique is that all classes, programs and study sessions are delivered entirely online.

The Concord Law School is a member of the International Association of Law Schools and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. And as an online school is also accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council, although its not accredited by any law school accrediting body.

The Concord University merged with Kaplan University in 2007 making it the only online law school to be part of a regionally accredited university, which gained popularity quickly. It also brought up much legal debate on the authenticity of online law degrees which aren't accredited by the ABA. Although California is the only state which allows taking the bar exam without having an ABA accredited law degree, Concord students must take and pass California's First-year Law Students' Examination (FYLSE), also known as the "Baby Bar," after their first year of online law school.

Concord offers two online degrees, the J.D. degree which is a four year online law school program and an executive JD (EJD) which is three years. The JD program is a 92-unit, where students are required to complete at least 22-24 units of coursework between 48 to 52 weeks each year. JD graduates meet the legal education qualification for the Committee of Bar Examiners, which is needed to take the California Bar Exam, once they pass they can apply for admission to the State Bar of California.

While the EJD degree is a 72 semester units and graduates don't qualify to take the California Bar Exam which is needed to practice law. It is designed for working professionals which seek for graduate law training but don't wish to practice law. The EJD is a trademark of the Concord Law School of Kaplan University and the same program is also offered by the Taft Law School of The Taft University System.
